Bat City Cycling is one of the longest running cycling teams in Austin Texas. Started in 1995 as the REI Cycling team that included an elite racing squad and a cycling club. After sever successful years and a few state championships out second generation team took on AT&T as a title sponsor and continued to grow the team and rack up titles on the road, track, single track and cyclocross courses across Texas. During this period we launched the Walburg Classic, now known as The Bat City Classic. In 2009 we took on Seton Brain & Spine hospital as a title sponsor and key supporter of our elite squad. In 2013 we became Bat City Cycling.

The Bat City Classic
Formerly the Walburg Classic. The Bat City Classic is the largest one day, sanctioned, road race in Texas. It is also the kick-off of the Texas Cup calendar. The quality and scope of the event draw teams and riders from all over the country and even some foreign riders. This is also due to the fact that it is one of the first major road races in the United States every year. The mild Central Texas winter doesn’t hurt either. We run the race on a 28 mile loop allowing us to run more categories than most races on the calendar. The race is our main source of funding for the year.
This is a key attraction for our sponsors and partners as it provides massive exposure to the cycling community across Texas.
The Cyclocross Scuffle
The CX Scuffle has had several incarnations and venues, including being the state championship event. A mainstay on the Texas Cup circuit, we work hard to deliver a true cyclocross racers course. Cyclocross continues to grow at impressive rates and the Scuffle is no exception. With a new venue for 2016 to expect even more growth and the possibility of a two day event.
We seek to partner with sponsors where we feel we can have a real impact on their business with our presence in the community and our membership can benefit from the products, services, and community provided by our partners.
Team sponsors provide a benefit directly to our members and we provide exposure for their brands in the community and support events for them.
The Peddler Bike Shop: A full service shop with two location in Austin. One near campus and one on the Northwest side which is our home shop being right in the middle of a large chunk of our membership.
Red Horn Coffee & Brewing: Coffee, Beer, and Bikes just go together. Red Horn is our team’s home base and our living room.
Rol Wheels: Rol started in Austin before moving up to Denver but we still keep a close relationship as we love their wheels.
Holland Racing: The race promoting company that runs the Best Weekly Crit in America. They help us with our races and we volunteer at theirs; it’s an important partnership in keeping the race scene healthy and vibrant.
Brad Houston – The Cycling Attorney: Brad is a mainstay in the city of Austin and an invaluable advocate for all things cycling.
Craft Sportswear: Craft has been making our kits for three seasons now and we couldn’t be happier. Craft underwrites a portion of the Bat City Classic and provides prizes.
Apache Pass: We are convinced we have the single best race central venue in all of Texas bike racing. The team at Apache pass is passionate about the community and cycling.
Treaty Oak Distillery: Treaty Oak provides prizes to our race winners at both the Bat City Classic and the Cyclocross Scuffle.
NUUN: Nuun keeps our racers hydrated on race day.
